NOW UNTIL EASTER – Snowdrop Pop-Up Shop
Tourist Information Centre, 8a Bell Street SP7 8AE; 10am – 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Snowdrop glasses cloth, books, cards, tea towels, key rings and locally designed snowdrop brooch and badges.
FRIDAY, FEB 7 – SATURDAY, FEB 23 – Shaftesbury Arts Centre Snowdrop Exhibition 2020
An open exhibition for anyone from 4 – 94+ with more than 100 entries in a wide variety of styles and techniques, such as paintings, ceramics, textiles and metalwork. Most exhibits are for sale; visitors can vote for their favourite and the winning artist receives a prize, with a special prize for under 18’s. The exhibition is open 10am – 4pm daily including Sundays 9 & 16 February & on Sunday 23 until 3pm. To enter, download an entry form from www.shaftesburyartscentre.org.uk or collect one from the Box Oﬃce at the arts centre, open 10am – 12.30pm daily except Sundays. SATURDAY, FEB 8 – Snowdrop Study, Sale and Social Day at Shaftesbury Arts Centre
A morning of lectures (tickets available from Eventbrite) followed by the ‘Best in the West’ sale of unusual and rare snowdrops – ten of the UK’s top snowdrop nurseries and plantsmen in one place. Shaftesbury Town Hall, 1 – 3pm. Tickets are £5 from the Tourist Information Centre on Bell Street.
Afternoon lecture 2.45 – 4pm Woody Plants in the Winter Garden by Dr John Grimshaw, respected gardener, botanist and author, and Director of the Yorkshire Arboretum. Tickets £10 from Eventbrite or the Tourist Information Centre on Bell Street.
SATURDAY, FEB 8 – Climb Trinity Tower
Climb all 126 internal steps of Shaftesbury’s 26-metre-high Trinity Tower and enjoy fantastic views. Trinity Centre, Bimport, Shaftesbury, 12am – 3pm. All children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult. Admission £3 on the door.
SUNDAY, FEB 9 – Lantern Parade
Snowdrop Lantern Parade from Trinity Tower to The Guildhall. Meet at Trinity Tower at 6.15pm. Free and all welcome.
‘Steps in Time’ Snowdrop Season Ceilidh
After the Snowdrop Lantern Parade, Steps in Time are hosting a charity ceilidh (7pm-10pm) in Shaftesbury Town Hall. A live band with called dances (no experience needed). Tickets include hot food with drinks available. All profit to the Mayor’s Charity and Steps in Time. SUNDAY, FEB 9 – Snowdrop Walk led by Peter Wells, with Rachel Diment
An afternoon walk 12.00 – 14.00pm to enjoy the snowdrops in and around Shaftesbury (including hilly terrain). Free and no need to book. Walks open to all with the flexibility of amending the route on the day depending upon any walkers with specific mobility needs. Meet 11.45am in Bell Street Car Park (free Sundays), SP7 8AP. Refreshments available at St James Church 13.00pm. Wear sturdy footwear and a waterproof if rain is forecast. All walk at own risk.
THURSDAY, FEB 13 – Springhead Trust Open Garden
As well as enjoying the snowdrops, wander round the formal and informal gardens. Plus, a plant stall and café serving refreshments and light lunches from 11am. The garden is open from 10am – 4pm. Admission is £3.50, or free for Friends of Springhead and under 16s. Dogs on leads are welcome and there is assisted wheelchair access. SATURDAY, FEB 15 – Shaftesbury Library
Shaftesbury Library will be offering a Saturday morning snowdrop-themed drop-in activity session for children, followed by a Lego challenge at 11.00am. Under 8’s must be accompanied by an adult.
SATURDAY, FEB 15/Sunday, FEB 16 – Beans and Herbs Seed Fair
Saturday 9am – 12.30pm; Sunday 9am – 3pm, Town Hall, High Street, Shaftesbury, Dorset. Organic vegetable, herb and wildflower seeds, plant stall, gardening and cookery books, plus seed-swap table. Free entry.
